The Journey of Writing

From Idea to Reality
I didn’t set out to write a novel. Not really. I wanted to get something out of my head before it kept me up another night.
At first, Genesis was nothing more than a few scattered ideas. I had a character who didn’t know how important he was, a mystery that reached beyond the stars, and a sarcastic inner voice that says what most people only think. Mario Lance came to life before I knew it. Once he started talking, there was no shutting him up.
The Creative Process
I’ve spent over three decades in the tech world, where logic and structure rule the day. But writing this book reminded me that creativity has its own algorithms—ones that don’t always behave. Genesis: Resonance was built in the in-between hours: after work, after family dinners, and after the kind of days that make you question your sanity for willingly opening another document at midnight.
Somewhere between the first concept and the fifteenth rewrite, I realized this wasn’t just a story about asteroids, covert agencies, or alien civilizations. It was a story about choice. It explores what happens when someone ordinary is forced to make decisions that echo far beyond themselves. Mario’s sarcasm is a shield; his curiosity is his undoing. Maybe that’s why I kept going. I understood him more than I expected to.
Influences and Inspirations
The tone of Genesis, the humor, the grit, and the psychological edge grew out of my love for authors like Craig Alanson and Michael Fuchs. I wanted the pacing and camaraderie of Expeditionary Force, the tactical realism of Arisen, and the emotional weight that comes when characters realize the universe doesn’t owe them a damn thing.
The Moment of Completion
Finishing this book wasn’t some cinematic “type the final word and cue the swelling music” moment. It was quieter than that. It was a deep exhale and the realization that I’d finally built something that mattered—something that had a pulse of its own.
Now, with Genesis: Resonance finally ready to launch, I get to share the chaos, humor, and humanity that carried me through every page. This book isn’t perfect; no first mission ever is. But it’s honest, and it’s mine.
Looking Ahead
So, here’s to the next chapter, literally. Because Book 2 is already whispering from the edges of my screen.
I hope you enjoy the journey as much as I did. If you’re curious about the creative process or want to dive deeper into the world of Genesis, feel free to explore more on my site.
